The Serbian Super Liga is referred to as the Mozzart Bet Super League for sponsorship. SuperLiga was formed during the summer of 2005 as Serbia’s top football league. The Serbia Super Liga season usually starts in early August and runs through May of the following year.
The Serbian Super League used to be contested by 16 teams. In 2020-21 the league was restructured to 20 teams due to the covid-19 pandemic. Serbian Super League teams play in a round-robin format. Each team plays against each other twice a season - once at home and once away. In every season, each team plays a total of 38 matches. At the end of the season, the team with the top team is crowned the champion and qualifies for the UEFA Champions League. The 2nd and 3rd teams qualify for the UEFA Europa League. The bottom two teams are relegated to the Prva Liga.
